Global warming

Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate.

The increase of Earth’s average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth

Global Warming In Pakistan Effects

Global Warming results in sudden and dramatic changes in the climate and due to the damaged ozone layer it further endangers the lives of mankind and their property and can increase the probability of natural disasters.

  • Ocean circulation disrupted, disrupting and having unknown effects on world climate.
  • The global warming results in a much higher sea level which increases the chances of flooding and later can cause devastation as the flood passes causing deaths and destruction.
  • Water shortage is being observed in the water scarce areas which cause the deserts to be increased in desertification.
  • Sudden climatic and soil changes can lead to food shortages as climatic changes can adversely affect the agriculture and the crops.
  • Starvation and malnutrition which increases the diseases amongst the humans as well as animals.

Global Warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. We don’t need to wait for governments to find a solution for this problem: each individual can bring an important help
adopting a more responsible lifestyle: starting from little, everyday things. It’s the only reasonable way to save our planet, before it is too late.

Precautionary measures

That everyone can do in order to
fight against and reduce the Global Warming phenomenon: some of these ideas are at no cost, some other require a little effort or investment but can help you save a lot of money, in the middle-long term.

  1. Install a programmable thermostat
Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air
conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can
save you $100 a year on your energy bill.
  2. Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer
Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and
You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year
    with this simple adjustment.
  3. Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner
Cleaning a dirty air filter can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
  4. Do not leave appliances on standby
Use the “on/off” function on the machine itself. A TV set that’s switched on for 3 hours a day
(the average time Europeans spend watching TV) and in standby mode during the remaining 21 hours
uses about 40% of its energy in standby mode.
  5. Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket
You will save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple
You can save another 550 pounds per year by setting the
    thermostat no higher than 50°C.
  6. Move your fridge and freezer
Placing them next to the cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on
their own. For example, if you put them in a hot cellar room where the room temperature is 30-35ºC,
energy use is almost double and causes an extra 160kg of CO2 emissions for fridges per year and
    320kg for freezers.
  7. Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly
Even better is to replace them with newer models, which all have automatic defrost cycles and are
generally up to two times more energy-efficient than their predecessors.
  8. Don’t let heat escape from your house over a long period
When airing your house, open the windows for only a few minutes. If you leave a small opening all
day long, the energy needed to keep it warm inside during six cold months (10ºC or less outside
temperature) would result in almost 1 ton of CO2 emissions.

SHRD Initiatives for GW in Pakistan

The solution to the global warming is to reduce the emission of gases which includes carbon dioxide and methane, this can be done through planting more greenery and trees which might intake the maximum carbon dioxide and should exhale oxygen which should contribute in the stabilization of the environment. Burning of fuels should be prohibited and those fumes should be recycled properly so that they should not pollute the environment and should play the vital role in reducing the Global Warming from the world.

SHRD is moving comprehensive awareness campaign with the coordination of Mark & Trade Excelsior’s and REAP Pakistan. The project is “Green Pakistan” and SHRD initiative to reach at every corner of Pakistan. Campaign based on two categories 1. Planting more greenery. 2. Awareness of alternative energy and motivating people of Pakistan to realize the importance of solar energy. Pakistan should work rapidly while dealing with this numerous danger.

Renewable & Alternative Energy Association of Pakistan (REAP), the very first registered Association, in the field of Renewable Energy of Pakistan, We feel immense pleasure to reveal the significance of the renewable technology. We cannot stay away from the consequences of the Renewable Energy, as currently, most of our energy comes from the burning of fossil fuels and based upon our current rate of consumption, scientific experts forecast that we have mere decades left in our fossil fuel resources. As part of our mission is to create awareness, understanding and to promote usage of clean, renewable energy by providing education and information regarding types of clean renewable energy, to the community, particularly for the betterment of entire country.

SHRD is looking forward for partners who can support and apart of this campaign to avoid any future disasters to making possible.
